3 Favorite Apps to Create Insta Stories

Adam + I are often asked what apps we use to edit our photos and video on Instagram, so I figured I would share our top three with you! Just to be clear, we usually do most of our photo editing on Lightroom, at least to adjust exposures and colors. But these apps are great for a few creative touches or just to create content straight from your phone.

1. VSCO

I love VSCO for creating GIFs. Rather than the boomerang that just bounces back and forth, the GIF replays a 2 second video in a loop at a low frame rate, creating a really cool vintage look that I LOVE! VSCO also allows you to edit photos and has some awesome filters, but I tend to use the next app for editing photos on my phone.

2. Snapseed

Snapseed is my hands-down favorite cell phone editing app. I've tried using Lightroom Mobile and I find it to be extremely annoying to navigate and apply the edits I want. Snapped, however, is so awesome and it is FREE! My favorite tools are the Grainy Film filters, the Curve, and the Selective editing tool. Just be careful because with all of these tools available, it's easy to over-edit with this app. Oh and you can also create your own presets on here! I love Snapseed!

3. RAD VHS

My current obsession. I love creating videos using this camcorder app. It creates such a nostalgic feel that reminds me of my childhood. I really like how the app washes out colors and detail a bit, forcing the viewer to focus more on the content than the perfection of the shot. Be advised, they're charging $5/week for this bad boy. It's worth it if you create a lot of story content, otherwise it's pretty steep.

What are your favorite apps for creating content on instagram?

Gisella & Monsieur Pierre

Adam and I met Gisella and her pup, Pierre, on a Choose Mountains hike at Saddle Mountain near the Oregon Coast earlier this spring. It was a slightly brutal hike for us at the time, being that we hadn't been doing much peak bagging through the winter, but we hardly noticed. We met so many wonderful people who loved the outdoors as much as we do. Gisella is no exception. Since moving to Oregon several years ago she has taken the time to explore some of the most beautiful hiking destinations in the Northwest, with her pup Pierre right by her side most of the time. She has even summited Mount St. Helens! What a badass.

So, when Gisella reached out to us to help her create a family holiday card with a Pacific Northwest hike vibe, we couldn't resist. She said that she had a mossy forest in mind, and we knew just the place. Silver Falls State Park may be known for the ten plus waterfalls that the area boasts, but the forest within the park is one of Adam and my favorites.

The weather is always spotty this year in terms of how wet it might be. It rains a lot in the Willamette Valley during the fall. And Winter. And Spring... But we were very lucky to get overcast skies and mild temperatures. Gisella carried little Pierre in her pack as we walked along the trail to find the perfect location  to shoot. We didn't have to go far to enjoy a magically mossy spot.

After the shoot Gisella really won our hearts by treating us to lunch at Chipotle, which if you know us you know it's one thing we cannot resist!

It makes us so happy to be able to capture these moments for our friends! If you would like to book us for your next family portraits, engagement, senior portraits, or whatever your photography needs may be, send us an email to @jrsteinnn@gmail.com and we can start planning!  Xo

Sulee's Maternity Shoot at a Washington Waterfall

DSC_4933.jpg

We first met Sulee in February of this year, on a hike at this very waterfall off Snoqualmie Pass in Washington. It was our first time meeting up with anyone since moving to Seattle; before this Adam and I had just been hiking and and snowshoeing together. Sulee and I had just became ambassadors for the same hiking group and wanted to meet face to face and get to know each other. At the time Adam and I had just purchased our first full-frame camera, the Nikon D750 that we still shoot with today. We walked three snowy miles each way to see a gorgeous waterfall, while we all chatted and Adam captured candid shots of Sulee and me. Sulee told us that she and her fiancé, Riz, were planning a wedding and a vacation to Maui. We loved getting to talk to her about Hawaii because we had just moved from there not even six months prior. It was an amazing day.

Fast forward to this past weekend: Sulee and Riz are happily married and expecting their first child! A sweet baby girl named Ellie that is predicted to be born on the same day as me, December 23rd, but we will see about that! It was so special to have the opportunity to go back to the place that we met Sulee and take some beautiful maternity shots of her. We have been daydreaming about shooting this waterfall at sunrise ever since we saw it for the first time way back when it was covered in ice and snow. It definitely did not disappoint.
